From July 16 to 19, 2026, Cortina d’Ampezzo will host the legendary classic car race, the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti.
Dating back to 1947, the event has evolved into a regularity rally (regolarità classica). Crews no longer compete for maximum speed on treacherous mountain passes; instead, they vie for mathematical precision. The route is divided into checkpoints that must be crossed at strictly specified times, down to the hundredth of a second.

Kinetic Sculpture and 14 Alpine Passes
Over three days, participants will cover 523 kilometers, challenging 14 high-altitude passes, including the famous Falzarego, Pordoi, and the demanding Sella Group. Driving a 1950s automobile in these conditions is both a physical and intellectual art form. There are no electronic assistants, power steering, or ABS. There is only a heavy steering wheel with a wooden Nardi rim, the double-clutching technique, and the driver’s complete synergy with an analog machine.
The culmination of this aesthetic pleasure is the Elegance Competition (Concorso di Eleganza). Unlike static exhibitions on manicured lawns, these vintage masterpieces from coachbuilders like Touring Superleggera or Zagato are judged in their natural habitat. The cars are presented to a strict jury not sterile and polished, but covered in noble road dust, with glowing brakes after hundreds of kilometers of driving.

Route, Schedule, and Accommodation Logistics
The official headquarters and epicenter of the event is the Grand Hotel Savoia—this is where technical inspections, as well as stage starts and finishes, take place. Since a multi-hour mountain race demands high-quality recovery, choosing your accommodation in Cortina d’Ampezzo requires careful consideration. (You can read more about the best accommodation options below or by clicking here).
The Race Program:
-
July 16 (Thu) – Prologue (65 km): Falzarego, Giau. Sports and technical checks at the Grand Hotel Savoia. An introductory drive without traffic closures.
-
July 17 (Fri) – Stage 2 (248 km): 9 passes, including Pordoi, Fedaia, Sella, and Gardena. The most grueling day of the competition. Start from Cortina, a day loop through the Dolomites, and return to the hotel.
-
July 18 (Sat) – Stage 3 (210 km): Duran, Staulanza, Tre Croci. The decisive time trials. Race finish in Cortina.
-
July 19 (Sun) – Final: The grand Award Ceremony and the Elegance Competition (Concorso di Eleganza).

Social Protocol and Dynamics
The Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti is not just a sport; it is a private club that unites European aristocrats, industrial magnates, and collectors. The daytime tension on the track is perfectly balanced by evening receptions.
Schedule of Social Events:
-
Thursday, July 16: Welcome Dinner at the Grand Hotel Savoia. An evening of informal networking for the crews.
-
Friday, July 17: Hotel restaurant dinners following the most exhausting stage. The main topic in the lounges: the technical nuances of navigating the passes.
-
Saturday, July 18: The climax of the event—the Gala Dinner at the Grand Hotel Savoia. The sporting portion is complete.
-
Sunday, July 19: The grand Award Ceremony.
Cortina’s social scene dictates an unspoken but strict dress code. You won’t see flashy logos here. Aesthetics are expressed through textures and details: bespoke Neapolitan-cut linen jackets, Loro Piana cashmere pullovers for cool mountain evenings, soft suede driving moccasins, worn leather driving gloves, and mandatory vintage chronographs with complex movements on the wrist. In this atmosphere of exclusivity, high-level networking thrives, and business deals are quietly sealed.

The Evolution of Admission Classes
Traditionally, the core of the competition consists of cars manufactured up to and including 1971. However, organizers have expanded the classification to showcase the continuous evolution of automotive engineering. Two additional categories now apply:
-
Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti Legend: Cars produced from 1972 to 1990 (early supercars and sports coupes, such as the Porsche 911 G-Series, early Ferrari 308s, and BMW M-series).
-
Tributo Coppa d’Oro: Modern Grand Touring (GT) cars produced from 1991 to the present day.
Note: The deadline for early-bird registration ended on May 30, but standard registration for the 2026 race remains open.

Race Integration: Vintage Sports Car Rentals
To become a full participant or an engaged spectator of the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti, you don’t need to solve the complex logistics of shipping your own classic car to Europe. Italy boasts a highly developed elite vintage car rental industry catering to any request: from independent drives around Cortina to fully escorted tours along the race route.
Important Note: Enjoy Ski is a premium travel agency. We do not own a fleet, nor do we rent cars directly. However, we provide a comprehensive concierge service: for clients booking hotel accommodations through our agency, we will assist in renting a classic sports car from our trusted partners.
