Tignes Late Summer 2026 - Bike Park, Trails, Festivals

[ 23.07.2026 ]

By the end of July, most people assume the Alps have quietly settled into a slow summer. The glacier ski season has closed, the racing calendar of early summer is over, and the crowds have moved to the coast.

Tignes does the opposite. This is precisely when the resort hits its stride. The bike park is running at full capacity, the high trails are dry and open, and the village calendar fills with festivals, concerts and races almost every week through August.

The Resort Built for August

The Grande Motte glacier ski season runs until 19 July in 2026, so by late July the skis are put away. What replaces them is arguably a better reason to be here.

The Tignes–Val d’Isère Bike Park stays open until 30 August, with 220 kilometres of trails served by lifts across terrain that runs from 1,550 to well above 3,000 metres. Green flow lines, enduro descents, and double-black tracks all sit within the same lift-served network.

Away from the bike, the high-altitude trail network opens up completely in August, when the snow has cleared from the passes and the ridgelines are dry.

A late-summer day in Tignes typically splits into three:

  • Morning on the Bike Park descents, when the trails are freshly groomed and the lifts are quiet.
  • Midday on the high trails — the Aiguille Percée loop, the Lacs du Chardonnet, or the climb to Tovière.
  • Evening down by the lake, where the village programme takes over.

The My Tignes activity card bundles more than twenty summer activities, from the bike lifts to the lake, into a single pass — which is what makes stringing a day like this together so straightforward.

Trails at Altitude

Tignes is one of the more complete trail-running destinations in the French Alps, and late summer is its best window. A few routes stand out:

  • Les Lacs du Chardonnet — 6.3 km, green. An easy path with views over the Lac de Tignes and the Grande Sassière. The right place to start.
  • L’Aiguille Percée — 7.4 km, blue. A steady climb along the ridge before the descent down the Palafour slopes.
  • Tovière — 12.5 km, red. 663 m of ascent, part of the Tignes Trail course. You can run back down or take the cable car if the knees prefer.

One rule matters more in August than any other month: storms build fast in the afternoon. Check the forecast, start early, and carry water and a charged phone.

Events Calendar

2 August 2026

Open de Golf de Tignes

The 4th edition of the resort’s summer golf open, played on one of the highest courses in Europe. A single day of competition in an alpine setting that turns an ordinary round into something considerably rarer.

3–21 August 2026

Musicalp

Nearly three weeks of classical music at altitude — a festival and academy that brings concerts to the mountains through the heart of August. It gives the late-summer evenings in Tignes a very different register from the daytime adrenaline.

13 August 2026

Fête du Lac

The lake festival — the single most festive night of the Tignes summer, built around the water at the centre of the resort. The kind of village celebration that has nothing to do with sport and everything to do with why people stay a week.

15–16 August 2026

Tignes Trail

The centrepiece of the summer. Seven races across two days, from children’s courses to a full 42 km. The distances:

  • Saturday 15 August — youth trails of 800 m, 1.7 km and 2.9 km.
  • Sunday 16 August — 12 km (new for 2026, past the Aiguille Percée), 14 km, 26 km, and the 42 km through the Vanoise National Park.

20 August 2026

Chouchoute ta Montagne

A volunteer clean-up day in the mountains — a chance to give something back to the terrain that the whole summer is built on. Open to anyone willing to lend a hand.

Every Monday & Thursday

Les Soirées Barges

Live music by the Tignes lake, twice a week through the summer. The reliable, low-key evening fixture between the bigger events — the reason the village never feels quiet in August.

Why Late Summer Is the Right Call

The glacier skiing gets the headlines in June and early July. But from the end of July through August, Tignes offers something more balanced and, for most visitors, more usable.

  • The Bike Park is open and quieter than at peak season, right through to 30 August.
  • The high trails are fully clear — the best running and hiking window of the year.
  • There is a festival or race almost every week: golf, classical music, the lake festival, and the Tignes Trail.

Skis before noon is a June story. Bikes, trails and a full village calendar is the late-summer one — and it rewards those who stay long enough to use it.
