Chalet Orca, One House for Three Generations

[ 03.08.2026 ]

Planning a trip for three generations is rarely about the destination. It is about the logistics — the grandparents who want quiet and a good chair by the fire, the parents who want a proper workout and an evening that is theirs, the children who need somewhere to be loud without anyone minding. Most chalets solve for one of these. Chalet Orca is built to solve for all three under a single roof.

This is not a showroom tour. It is a working plan for a family that actually travels together.

Le Fornet · Val d’Isère

A Quiet Address, Two Steps From the Glacier

Orca sits in the hamlet of Le Fornet, the oldest and calmest corner of Val d’Isère. The Fornet cable car stands 140 metres from the door, directly opposite, with access to the Espace Killy and the Pissaillas glacier. The heart of the resort is four minutes away with our valet. For a large group this matters more than it sounds: the mountain begins at the doorstep, and the noise of the station stays at a distance you choose.

For the Children

A Room of Their Own, and a Day With Shape

The fifth bedroom is built for the youngest guests — six sleeping places, two double beds and two bunks, an en-suite cocoon that keeps the children close but gives everyone their own rhythm at bedtime.

The days fill themselves:

  • Ski school within reach of the Fornet lift, then sledging back at the chalet
  • A cooking class with the private chef — the afternoon that always becomes the favourite
  • A games room with billiards, consoles and board games for the hours after dark

For the Parents

The Hours That Are Yours

The four en-suite bedrooms on the main floor each open onto a south-facing balcony, over the old village and the peaks — the part of the day that belongs to the adults begins here. On level -1, a fully equipped gym holds a Technogym Kinésis mirror, a SkiErg, a bike and a weights bench, for the morning session before anyone else is awake.

In the evening the TV Bar & Lounge takes over: a private room built around a big screen and a proper bar, for a match, a film, or simply a longer night once the children are down.

For the Grandparents

Warmth, Without the Effort

The oldest generation rarely wants the lift queue — they want the good part of the mountain without the cold of it. Orca answers with a lift between floors, a wood fireplace to sit beside, a wine cellar for the evening, and a wellness level a few steps down rather than a drive away.

The ritual after ski runs on one floor:

  • The heated infinity pool first, to loosen the day
  • The stone Jacuzzi at 37°C, with its tiled seats, to warm through
  • Hammam and sauna last, before the fire and dinner

One Roof, Three Rhythms

Five bedrooms, room for fourteen, and a chef, butler and driver included six evenings out of seven — the practical weight of a large family trip lifted before it begins. Everyone keeps their own pace, and the house holds them together at the end of the day.

That, more than any single feature, is what Orca is for.
