On 18 December a door on the Bellecôte piste opens again. People who come back to Courchevel 1850 every winter have skied past it for years, and a few of them have stayed behind it. The name above the door has not changed. Almost nothing else has stayed the same.
Le Saint Roch has been taken apart and put back together by Maisons Pariente, and it returns this season with thirty-seven rooms and a quiet, specific ambition. In its own words, this is a house for guests who no longer need to be seen. In a village that has spent sixty years being looked at, that is a real position to take.
The fifth house
Maisons Pariente comes to Courchevel
Patrick Pariente founded the fashion label Naf Naf. His daughters, Leslie Kouhana and Kimberley Cohen, went on to build hotels the way a family builds houses rather than the way a group builds a portfolio: one at a time, each rooted in a place they already loved. Crillon le Brave in Provence opened in 2018, Lou Pinet in Saint-Tropez and Le Coucou in Méribel in 2019, Le Grand Mazarin in Paris in 2023.
Saint Roch is the fifth, and the second of them inside the Three Valleys. One valley over, Le Coucou reopens in Méribel → a week earlier, on 11 December. The two houses share a spa brand and a family, and beyond that very little: different architects, different scale, different mountain. Splitting a week between them is a genuine way to see both ends of the ski area without changing the way you are looked after.

The rooms
The reference the hotel gives for its interiors is the oriental dacha: a winter house furnished over time rather than decorated in one go. Brushed wood, muted velvet, rugs with an irregular fibre, objects that look as though somebody brought them back from somewhere. Above the bed, a marquetry panel of a mountain in inlaid wood. Light here is arranged to accompany the room rather than to light it.
Nothing is placed to be photographed, which is the harder brief. Categories run from the Superior Room through Deluxe, Prestige, Junior Suite, Superior Suite and Deluxe Suite. Prestige Suites reach 70 square metres on the fifth floor, and taking that whole floor as one makes it the Penthouse, which is the answer for a family or a group travelling together.

Below stairs
The pool under the arch
The spa reaches for Ottoman hammams and the palaces of the Caucasus, and the room actually delivers on it. Low arches, marble with deep veining, a palette of ochre, rust and midnight blue. A marble mosaic by Pierre Mesguish lines the pool shower, and the whole space is built around it, which is unusual: most hotel spas are built around the pool and then decorated.
There is an indoor pool and a fitness room, and the treatments are by Tata Harper, the botanical skincare house that also works at Le Coucou. After a cold afternoon, this is the part of the building that earns its keep.
Golden light
The bar and the restaurant
Of all its rooms, the bar is the one the hotel talks about most, and the description is worth taking seriously. Amber light on dark wood. Deep seating. Volumes drawn close enough that a conversation stays at the table it started on. Cocktails built for balance rather than for effect, spirits chosen for character. It is the room people arrive at without a plan and leave later than they meant to.
The restaurant keeps the light low and the tables well apart, and the hotel describes arriving there as walking into a salon you already know. Outside guests are taken subject to availability, which is worth remembering: in 1850 a good table is harder to find than a good room.

Two weeks of skiing before the doors
Courchevel turns its lifts on 4 December 2026 and closes on 18 April 2027. The hotel opens on 18 December, a fortnight into the season. If you had the first weeks of December in mind for 1850, this is not yet the house for them.
Thirty-seven rooms is a deliberate number in a village that counts its palaces, and it sets the register for everything else. A house you live in for a week rather than a lobby you cross twice a day. Staff who know your name by the second morning, because there are not many names to learn. A bar where the same faces turn up at the same hour without anyone having arranged it.
