Verbier Ski Resort 2026/27 - the Village, the Ski Area and Where to Stay

[ 21.10.2026 ]

If you have not been to Verbier, picture a Swiss village of wooden chalets at 1,500 m, spread over a wide sunny plateau in the Valais. Everything in it is within a walk: eight minutes from the lift station at Médran to the central square, ten to the tourist office. Cars are allowed all year, unlike in Zermatt, though few guests bother with one by midweek.

From the village a gondola climbs into the 4 Vallées, the largest connected ski area in Switzerland, with more than 400 km of runs and Mont-Fort at 3,330 m as its highest point. Skiers know Verbier for its off-piste, and the freeride contest named after the resort, the Xtreme Verbier, is held here every winter.

A day in the village

How a week in Verbier is arranged

A car of your own is of little use here. No car park in Verbier opens straight onto the slopes, so the lifts have to be reached some other way, and nobody enjoys that last stretch on foot in ski boots. Guests have two ways around it.

First way. The chalet driver

Chalets at this level keep drivers of their own. They run guests up to the lifts in the morning and collect them at the end of the day.

Second way. The free shuttle

Shuttle buses cross the village all year and cost nothing. They are also how families reach the ski schools.

One rule with children

The ski schools gather by the No. 17 bus stop, and no private car may drop children there. It is reached only by shuttle line 1, which runs there from the village.

The 2026/27 season

The ski area and when the lifts run

Above the village the slopes climb from 1,500 m to 2,700 m, with the snowpark among them at La Chaux. Beyond that the runs carry on across four valleys to Nendaz and Thyon, which is where the ski area gets its name, and the lift pass is sold in the same four sizes.

  • Verbier – La Tzoumaz pass: 5 December 2026 to 25 April 2027.
  • 4 Vallées pass: 12 December 2026 to 18 April 2027.
  • Bruson, the quiet sector across the valley: 12 December 2026 to 4 April 2027.

Beginners and non-skiers

What a group does when not everyone skis

A resort known for its off-piste can look daunting on paper, and a mixed group manages here easily. The nursery slopes are in the village itself, with free magic carpets at Les Esserts and Les Moulins. Beginners move on to the gentle runs at Le Rouge, and by midweek they are usually on the blue slopes higher up.

For anyone who never puts on skis, the tourist office marks out snowshoe trails and winter walking paths and lists cross-country skiing and ski touring. The lift company adds a toboggan run, dog sledding and paragliding.

What the week is built around, though, is not the slopes but the place the group comes back to each afternoon.

A fully catered chalet

A week at chalet No. 14

No. 14 Verbier is the name of a chalet, not a room in a hotel. It stands in the centre of the village, at Rue de la Velle 14, and goes to one party at a time. There are thirteen bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Full, the chalet takes up to 26 guests. The staff numbers fifteen, among them the chalet manager, the head concierge, a head chef with two sous chefs, five hosts, three housekeepers and a night porter.

The week is quoted as one figure, and most of what a group spends its evenings on is already inside it:

  • Dinner cooked by the chalet’s own chefs on up to five nights of the week, with the menus agreed before anyone arrives, and an earlier sitting for small children.
  • Breakfast, afternoon tea, and drinks with canapés before dinner each evening.
  • The bar, along with the Champagne and the wines of the house.
  • Drivers on call around the clock within the resort, a concierge for the week’s plans, and daily housekeeping.

The ground floor holds a private spa, with an indoor pool at 34 °C and a snow machine beside it, a hammam and a sauna. A hot tub stands out on the terrace, by the fire pit. The living room above is built around a fireplace open on every side, and there is a billiard room and a cinema. The chalet publishes its floor plans, so the bedrooms can be shared out before anyone packs.

Paid separately, and booked through other companies: airport transfers, lift passes, equipment hire, instructors, guides, massages and childcare. For a stay booked through Enjoy Ski, your personal manager will help arrange them.

Choosing the dates

Which week to take, and how long

  • A full week, Sunday to Sunday, is the usual booking. The chalet is open from December to April.
  • Midweek stays are taken from three nights, which suits a company off-site.
  • Hotel Weeks are the exception to exclusive use: on those dates, published by the chalet, rooms are let one at a time.
  • In summer the chalet opens again in July and August, around the Verbier Festival and the sport of the warm months.

What the resort is like in summer is in our late-summer guide to Verbier.

The journey in

How to get to Verbier from Geneva airport

Geneva is the usual way in, and the road from it is the shortest route.

  • By road: about 1 h 50 from Geneva Airport, 3 h 15 from Zurich. The tourist office lists the firms that work the route.
  • By air: private flights use Sion, the regional airport in the valley. LunaJets, an operator listed by the tourist office, puts it at 45 minutes from Verbier by car, or eight minutes by helicopter to Le Châble and a quarter of an hour from there.
  • By train: around 2 h 40 from Geneva to Le Châble, the station below the village, then 20 minutes up by gondola or bus. On winter weekends and holidays the Verbier Express runs from Geneva Airport to Le Châble with no change.

On that route the luggage can travel separately. Swiss Federal Railways carry it between airport and station.

If you drive yourself

After heavy snowfall chains may be required on the last stretch between Le Châble and Verbier, and winter tyres are strongly recommended for the whole drive.
