Le K2 Altitude Takes a MICHELIN Key, and the Collection Makes Four out of Four

[ 15.10.2026 ]

The French list of 2026 MICHELIN Keys marks its new entries in red — a small italic nouveauté set after the hotel’s name. Courchevel carries three of those marks this year. One of them sits beside Le K2 Altitude.

It is the hotel’s first appearance in the selection, with one MICHELIN Key. The other three hotels of Le K2 Collections were already there and kept what they had: three Keys for Le K2 Palace, two for Le K2 Chogori in Val d’Isère, one for Le K2 Djola. Which makes this the first winter when all four hotels of the collection carry Keys — seven between them.

What a Key is

Stars are for restaurants, Keys are for hotels

The MICHELIN Guide started awarding Keys to hotels in 2024, on the same logic it has used for restaurants since 1926: anonymous inspectors, one to three levels, a yearly list. Inspectors weigh five things — architecture and interior design, the quality of service, personality and character, value for money, and the contribution the hotel makes to its location.

The 2026 French selection was published on 18 September. It holds 220 hotels: 26 with three Keys, 39 with two, 155 with one. Three of the three-Key hotels are in the Alps — Cheval Blanc Courchevel, Le K2 Palace and Four Seasons Megève.

Worth knowing

A Key is not a star rating and not a star in the restaurant sense. A one-Key hotel is not a weaker version of a three-Key hotel — it is a different scale of stay. Le K2 Djola has twenty-four rooms and no restaurant; Le K2 Palace has four private chalets with their own swimming pools. Both are in the same selection.

Courchevel 2026

Eight hotels with Keys in one resort

Courchevel is the densest address in the French selection, and three of its eight are new this year.

Three Keys Cheval Blanc Courchevel · Le K2 Palace
Two Keys Aman Le Mélézin · L’Apogée Courchevel · Rosewood Courchevel Le Jardin Alpin (new)
One Key Airelles Courchevel (new) · Le K2 Altitude (new) · Le K2 Djola

In Val d’Isère the list is shorter: Le K2 Chogori with two Keys, then Airelles Val d’Isère, new this year, and Les Barmes de l’Ours with one each.

Four addresses

Which of them is yours

One family, one architect, one Himalayan theme — and four genuinely different holidays. Hotel by hotel below: who it suits, what is in it, and what to settle before you book.

Three Keys · Courchevel 1850

Le K2 Palace

Who it suits. Anyone who wants to step out of the door onto the piste and not get into a car in the evening: three restaurants and tea time are inside the hotel.

  • On the slope above the village, ski-in ski-out onto the Cospillot piste.
  • 29 rooms and three suites, reopening in December in a new interior by Capezzone Architecture.
  • Six Suites-Chalets from 251 to 322 m² over three levels, with a butler for breakfast and tea.
  • Four separate chalets from 480 to 650 m² with their own pools, joined to the hotel by an indoor passage.
  • Goji Spa across 500 m² and two floors, five treatment rooms, two of them doubles.

Worth knowing. This is the largest address in the collection: 29 rooms, six Suites-Chalets and four chalets on one estate. None of the four hotels takes pets.

Le K2 Altitude

Who it suits. Anyone whose trip is built around dinner: a starred restaurant and two more kitchens in the same hotel.

  • Above Courchevel 1850, a few minutes from the altiport.
  • An alpine hamlet of eleven chalets; 32 rooms and a suite sit in nine of them, from 26 to 133 m².
  • L’Altitude holds one MICHELIN Star; La Cima and Base Kamp by Aïnata complete the table.
  • Goji Spa across 340 m² with an outdoor Nordic bath, and the K’Baret hall that turns into a cinema or a stage.
  • Two rooms are adapted for guests with reduced mobility.

Worth knowing. L’Altitude closes on Wednesdays: if it is the reason for the trip, the Wednesday needs to fall mid-stay rather than on your one free evening. Courchevel 1850 itself is down the hill.

Two Keys · Val d’Isère

Le K2 Chogori

Who it suits. Groups and larger families who want one address instead of three rooms — and anyone who wants Val d’Isère rather than Courchevel.

  • In the centre of the village, looking at the Saint-Bernard belfry and the black Face de Bellevarde.
  • Nineteen rooms and flexible suites plus two penthouses, from 30 to 171 m².
  • The modular suites take up to six people across two or three bedrooms.
  • Goji Spa by Nescens with a pool, the Le Bottleneck restaurant and the Le 1954 bar.

Worth knowing. L’Altiplano, which people came to Val d’Isère for, works at the Palace from this season. Le Bottleneck has its place now — embers and cheese fondues.

One Key · Courchevel 1850

Le K2 Djola

Who it suits. Anyone who wants to be in the centre of 1850 and eat out around the village, while breakfast and tea stay at home.

  • Four stars rather than five, and the collection says so plainly: a town hotel in the mountains.
  • 24 rooms over four floors, from 26 to 62 m², including a Family Duplex for two adults and two children.
  • Breakfast, tea by the fire and an aperitif.
  • “Djola” is Tibetan for younger brother.

Worth knowing. There is no dinner in the hotel. There is no pool and no gym either: a sauna, a hammam and an experience shower.

At the table

What changed at the table

In one year the collection has moved almost its whole table. Hold last winter’s picture in your head and half the restaurants will be somewhere else.

Closed

Le Sarkara, the pastry restaurant at Le K2 Palace, two MICHELIN Stars

It announced the end of its run in August 2026; its chef, Sébastien Vauxion, left the collection. Marc-André Guerquin-Kern now leads pastry for the collection, and his work appears at tea time in all four hotels.

Moved

L’Altiplano: it was in Val d’Isère, and it is now at Le K2 Palace

The Peruvian restaurant made its name at Le K2 Chogori; it occupies the Palace now and opens every evening.

Took its place

Le Bottleneck — at Chogori, with a second one at the Palace

Embers and cheese fondues in Val d’Isère, into its second season under chef Bastien Paysant. A second Bottleneck opened at the Palace, so the fondue is on both resorts now.

Holds the Star

L’Altitude, one MICHELIN Star in the 2026 French guide

For the traditional French cooking of Guillaume Duchemin and Davide Sessa. Alongside it, Base Kamp by Aïnata serves Lebanese mezze at lunch on a terrace with a 180-degree view, from a menu co-signed by Alan Geaam.

Four houses, two resorts, seven Keys — and a restaurant that changed valley, not dining room, in a single year.

Booking

Where to start

Step 1  Choose the hotel

From the section above: the Palace for the piste at the door and three restaurants inside; Altitude for the starred table; Chogori for Val d’Isère and apartments that hold a group; Djola for the centre of 1850, with dinner out.

Step 2  Check the evening

L’Altitude closes on Wednesdays, Le Bottleneck at the Palace on Sundays. If the dinner is the reason for the trip, the dates are built around it rather than the other way round.

Step 3  Tell us how many of you there are, and the ages of the children

That decides room or suite: Family Prestige at the Palace and the Family Junior Suite at Altitude take two children; the modular suites at Chogori take six in one apartment; the Family Duplex at Djola takes two adults and two children.

Step 4  If you want a house rather than a room, say so first

A Suite-Chalet (three bedrooms, a butler for breakfast, an indoor corridor into the hotel) and the four separate chalets with their own pools are booked differently, and there are very few of them.

Step 5  If the new Palace interior matters

Rooms and suites reopen after Capezzone Architecture in December. Ask for the refreshed ones by name — in December the hotel will have both.

None of the four hotels publishes its rates; we hold them. Send the dates and who is travelling — we will put the options together, confirm availability and book.
