Zermatt ski resort

Zermatt is a municipality in the district of Visp in the German-speaking section of the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It has a population of about 5,800 inhabitants and is classified as a town by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
It lies at the upper end of Mattertal at an elevation of 1,620 m (5,310 ft), at the foot of Switzerland’s highest peaks. It lies about 10 km (6.2 mi) from the over 10,800 ft (3,291.84 m) high Theodul Pass bordering Italy.
Zermatt is famed as a mountaineering and ski resort of the Swiss Alps.
How to get there: Most visitors reach Zermatt by the rack assisted railway train from the nearby town of Täsch (Zermatt shuttle). Trains also depart for Zermatt from farther down the valley at Visp and Brig, which are on the main Swiss rail network.
Trails, slopes, lifts:The ski region of Zermatt is divided into the regions of Rothorn, Gornergrat, Matternhorn glacier paradise and Cervinia at the Italian side. 75 blue, 63 black and 220 red ski slopes kilometers. The mountain lifts in the Zermatt and the surrounding areas take one to the highest heights in the alps up to 3,883 m.Gornergrat (3’089 m), Matterhorn glacier paradise (3’883 m) and the Rothorn (3’103 m).
