La Tania is one of the six villages of the commune of Courchevel, in Savoie, set in a forest clearing at 1,400 m. The village opened in 1990 and is fully pedestrian. Its gondola links it to the Courchevel ski area and on into Les 3 Vallées, so no car is needed to ski.
How to get there: Chambéry airport (seasonal) is about 1 hr 20 by road, Geneva and Lyon–Saint-Exupéry about 2 hrs. The nearest railway station, Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains, is about 40 minutes away; the Altibus S65 bus from Moûtiers runs all year and stops at La Tania, and in winter Altibus also runs buses to Courchevel from Geneva and Lyon airports. Within the resort, a free shuttle serves all six villages.
Slopes and lifts: the La Tania gondola and the Dou des Lanches chairlift reach the highest point of the La Tania slopes in under 20 minutes, according to the local ESF ski school. The Col de la Loze, at 2,304 m, is the crossing into the Méribel valley. The way back down is the black Dou des Lanches, the red Bouc Blanc or the blue Crêtes–Arolles, then the blue Folyères or the green Plan Fontaine, both with snowmaking; the gondola also takes skiers down. The Courchevel ski area has 150 km of marked slopes, Les 3 Vallées 600 km.
Lift passes: the Courchevel pass is valid in La Tania, the 3 Vallées pass covers the whole linked area, and children under 5 ski free. La Tania has its own ski pass office.
For beginners and children: the Kodiak beginner area on the snow front is free and has two moving carpets. ESF La Tania, in the village since 1990, teaches children from age 3 in its Piou Piou club; the La Tanière des Croès day-care centre takes children from 6 months to 5 years.
