La Rosiere ski resort

VIEW OFFERS

La Rosïere sits at 1,850 m facing south across the Tarentaise, on the French side of the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass. Since 1984 its lifts have been joined to those of La Thuile in the Aosta valley, so a day here can start in France and finish in Italy on one pass.
How to get there: Bourg-Saint-Maurice is the nearest railway station, in the valley below. Geneva, Lyon-Saint-Exupéry, Chambéry and Grenoble are the nearest airports.
Slopes and lifts: the Espace San Bernardo covers 156 km of certified pistes — one of the few areas whose runs are officially measured rather than estimated — with 39 lifts across the two countries, 22 of them chairlifts. The split is 45 % green and blue, 40 % red, 15 % black. The border crossing is the Petit-Saint-Bernard, 8 km from the village.
What the skiing is like: the French side is sunny and open, the Italian side steeper and wooded, which gives the area an unusual range for its size. The aspect is both the reason to come and the reason to watch the spring snow.
Where you stay: La Rosïere is small and built along the road at the level of the slopes, so most accommodation is on the snow rather than a shuttle ride from it.
Season: the resort opens on 12 December. The full French-Italian link runs to mid-April, a few days short of the resort closing.
